Philosophy

The counselling relationship is fundamental and trust, safety, respect and acceptance are all qualities I value highly and provide. I practice mindfulness daily which is a valuable resource I draw  upon. I also abide by the BACP ethical framework for good practice.

I work in a collaborative way to facilitate self understanding and empowerment. I have a particular interest in Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) with it's self help orientation and power to help us change our relationship to our thoughts and emotions and to develop self acceptance.

I use CBT and MBCT as well as other related approaches to help clients enquire and explore their core beliefs, assumptions, thinking patterns, feelings and body sensations. This includes understanding how these elements have developed through childhood and their affects in the present. From this understanding and awareness changes can be made to improve one's wellbeing and quality of life. I can offer help with a variety of strategies to foster this process as well as help you develop your own.

Through the counselling a different experience of oneself can develop. This can lead to changes in  relationships, to self, others and the world. Mindfulness and other complementary theories can also facilitate a greater awareness and connection to parts of ourselves we have neglected or projected outwards and contribute to self acceptance in the now.

I believe in reflective practice and have an ongoing commitment to my own personal development. I have regular, confidential, professional supervision.
