Qualifications and Experience

BACP Accredited Counsellor with 22 years experience working as a full time professional counsellor. Currently working for a number of major employee assistance providers as well as The Royal United Hospital, Bath. In Private Practice in Central Bath and Newbridge Bath. Previous experience includes 18 years working for two GP Surgeries and four years as a counsellor at Off the Record Bath.

First degree and subsequent diploma in counselling from University of the West of England. Two year Certificate in Counselling from University of Bristol. Further training in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and in Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT). Completed Mindfulness Teacher Development Level 1 at Bangor University 2009. I have also completed the Fundamentals of Psychosynthesis as well as working with a Psychosynthesis trained Psychotherapist over a period of five years in the late 1990's. I have also trained in Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) which is another body orientated approach to working with trauma and accessing and shifting repressed feelings, body sensations and changing negative beliefs linked to traumatic events.

Regular practice of Mind- Body awareness and expression exercises including daily Mindfulness practice. Practised Yoga and meditation since the early 1980's and Mindfulness since 2005 also involved in a number of personal development trainings since 1985. Interested and experienced in the use of Mindfulness based approaches to treat Anxiety, Trauma, Depression and other conditions also as a means to aid well being and performance. I have run Eight Week and Four Week Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy Courses for BANES Talking Therapy Services for the past two and half years. CRB Enhanced Disclosure Checked. Married with grown up children and living in Bath.

I believe we have the means within to be fully alive and at peace. I am researching how the body and our aware self can help us to understand and calm the mind through approaches such as Mindfulness and and Body-Mind Psychotherapy. I can help you through using these approaches and others to connect with and process trauma and tensions in your body. I am also experienced in helping individuals to manage stress, thoughts and emotions and changing behaviours that don't serve them anymore. I have also worked with professional rugby players and golfers with performance anxiety and other problems related to performing in sports.
